Our academic curriculum is based on a North American liberal arts model and the medium of instruction is English. IUB has three academic terms: Spring, Summer and Autumn with classes commencing in January, May and September respectively. Admission tests are conducted in November, April and July, two months prior to the beginning of each term.Financial Aid & Student Employment
IUB offers discounts on tuition fees to undergraduate students, based on performance in IUB admission test and financial need. 50% financial discounts are offered for concurrently admitted siblings & spouse on entry. Students are supported through various campus employment programs such as Teaching Assistantship (TA), Graduate Assistantship (GA) and Student on Duty (SoD) in various academic and administrative units of IUB. Moreover, IUB has established 2+2 programs with University of South Alabama, Southern Illinois University, University of South Australia and Griffith College. Under these programs students can complete 2 years of an undergraduate major at IUB and then transfer to the respective partner university to complete the remaining 2 years.Co-Curricular Activities
Apart from academics, IUB puts a strong emphasis on co-curricular activities and provides unlimited opportunities to enhance their aesthetics talent and skills.
The Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) oversees all and coordinates all student activities including the 17 clubs: Art Club, Bangla Club, Book Club, Debating Club, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Film Club, International Affairs Club, Music Club, Photography Club, Theatre Club, BSS Club, CECS Club, ENV Club, Jukti Club, Economics Club, Monte Carlo Information Clu and IEEE IUB Student Branch. Students are also encouraged throughout their stay at IUB to participate in community services programs like blood donation, distribution of warm clothes in winter, fundraising for flood victims and victims of natural disasters etc. to promote leadership and personal growth.
The Office of Career Guidance and Placement (CGP) organizes workshops and seminars conducted by prospective employers throughout the year to facilitate the students to understand the employer's expectations from graduates as well as CV writing and grooming programs to successfully guide the students through the interview process. In addition to that, job fairs are organized on campus to provide the senior students with career opportunities. CGP also publishes the "Careerist", a graduate brochure that showcases the graduates from all the schools to prospective employers.IUB Library
IUB Library provides user-focused services that foster individual teaching, learning and promote exchange of ideas by making available the learning resources to support undergraduate and graduate programs, research programs of the university and the general information need of the community of the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).
The Library occupies over 22,000 square feet space over four floors in the IUB campus. It can accommodate over 450 students at a time. At present IUB Library has over 25,000 print books. There is a section for "Liberation War" where over 1000 books on the Liberation War of Bangladesh are shelved. The library has an A/V section, which has around 2000 CDs on topics ranging from as serious as finance to as light as movies. The current newspaper section receives regularly eleven national and international dailies including The Chronicle of Higher Education. The most significant collection of IUB Library is its "Electronic Resources". Over 50 carrels are equipped with computers to use these electronic resources. The IUB Library subscribes a good number of databases for full text journal articles, which provides the IUB community access to over 20000 titles of periodicals.
IUB is the leading host institution for Fulbright scholars in Bangladesh. We have had a steady flow of scholars from American and Canadian universities spending one semester to a year at IUB. The Centre for Health, Population and Development (CHPD)at IUB, is a university wide centre, which coordinates and facilitates research, scholarly activities, and policy dialogue in the multi-faceted relationships between development, health and population.CSSR
IUB has recently established the Centre for Social Science Research (CSSR) a sub-project under a project entitled as “Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP)” funded by the University Grants Commission, Bangladesh. The Centre strives for world-class social science research employing innovative research methods for improving quality of tertiary education by inspiring research-led teaching in classroom.ICCCAD
To support research and training on cutting edge issues of national and global importance, IUB in collaboration with Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies and International Institute for Environment and Development, UK, has set up an International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD).
Kazi Nazrul Islam & Abbasuddin Ahmed Research & Study Centre was instituted by IUB for the purpose of doing research on Nazrul & Abbasuddin, to publish books, journal, CDs, films; and to organize exhibitions and seminars.Bangla Language Institute (BLI)
The university has established a constituent Bangla Language Institute (BLI), which conducts Bangla language training program for internationalstudents. BLI hosts the prestigious Critical Language Scholarship Program (CLS), Bangla Language Training program for Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA), Researcher and Clinton fellows, Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) program, in-country language training program for diplomats and short courses for NGO professionals, independent scholars and researchers.
