Information session on environmental education held successfully
Green Planet Club, IUB successfully hosted the interactive information session on “Environmental Learning and Education: Mapping the Way Forward”, jointly organized by the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on Saturday, 17th November 2018. The event was aimed to give parents and students a perspective into the benefits of choosing Environmental Science/Management as a degree for their wards and the future career pathway it entails. The event was divided into three segments; parent-faculty discussion, higher education and job opportunities.
During the parent-faculty session the respective faculties answered the queries of the concerned parents whose children are studying Environmental Science and/or Management and what their future would be with regards to job and higher education opportunities. Their concerns were properly addressed by the dean of School of Environmental Science and Management, Dr. Abdul Khaleque and by the heads of the departments, Dr. K. Ayaz Rabbani and Dr. Mohammad Sorowar Hossain. They discussed the need for the students to be involved in extracurricular activities and the importance of maintaining a stable CGPA. They also helped the parents understand the importance of incorporating field work along with their studies. The parents expressed their satisfaction towards the education imparted and the unwavering encouragement of the faculty members and supporting staffs.
Dr. K. Ayaz Rabbani discussed the higher education opportunities of the students after the Undergraduate program. He informed the audience of the excellent master’s programs at IUB in the department of Environmental Science and Management. He also the emphasized on existing collaboration program with Universities in Germany through which the students will get a chance to gain an international exposure. The guest speakers Ms. Jennifer Khadim, Program Manager, International Center for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and Mr. Asif Ibne Yousuf, Chief Strategist, Creative Conservation Alliance (CCA) spoke about the opportunities that the students can get from organizations such as Save the Children, World Health Organization, UNICEF, and so forth. They discussed the need to follow one’s passion rather than mere incentives to be more productive in the job undertaken. New internship opportunities were mentioned, and many related questions raised from the students were elaborately answered.
The event and discussion was a great success especially benefitting the students in finding their career pathways in the future. Green Planet Club always tries to organize events that facilitate the students and help raise more awareness about issues that matter the most.
