Workshop on Substation Design & Simulation held at EEE department
In collaboration with the School of Engineers, IEEE IUB Student Branch organized a Workshop on Substation Design & Simulation on 9th February 2019. The entire session was conducted by the well-known Automation Engineer, Engr. Fardouse Alam from Innova Engineering Ltd. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak, Associate Professor of EEE department of IUB and the Branch Mentor of IEEE IUB Student Branch, welcomed and introduced the speaker to the audience, and officially inaugurate the workshop. Mr. Hasan Mahmud, AGM of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board was the special guest in this workshop.
Throughout the entire session ETAP Software was used to the design and simulate the distribution substation. A lecture on how a substation can transform voltage from high to low, or vice-versa, the change of voltage levels between high transmission voltages and lower distribution voltages along with the variation of electric power was delivered. The detailed information on the equipment and the working principles of substations were also administrated.
Around 50 students from different universities including IUB, IUT, BUET, Southeast and UIU were turned up to be present in this workshop, which provides a huge opportunity for them to learn the practical applications of their classroom-based knowledge. Following the conclusion of the event, all the participants were given certificates in order to motivate them to take part in the next upcoming workshops which will be beneficial for them. A token of appreciation was presented to the speaker for allocating some time amidst his busy schedule for this workshop.
