The School of Life Sciences at IUB, held a workshop entitled “Techniques in Molecular Biology” for Biochemistry and Microbiology senior students and alumni on February 2nd, 2019. The workshop was conducted in order to provide intensive training in using cutting-edge equipment and techniques in modern molecular biology and biotechnology, in order to prepare them for the next stage of their careers. The experiments conducted include DNA quantification using qPCR, protein separation and visualization using SDS-PAGE, nuclear staining and visualization using inverted fluorescence microscopy, and antigen detection using ELISA.
Faculty members at the School of Life Sciences, Dr. Sabrina Elias, Dr. Muntasir Billah, Ms. Tasnimul Ferdous, Mr. Ornob Alam, and Ms. Shakila Sultana designed and coordinated the daylong workshop. The SLS laboratories are among the best in the country, and the School’s laboratory curricula and workshops expose students to hands on techniques that few institutions in Dhaka are able to provide. Such exposure is indispensable for students aspiring to become top researchers in the field.
