The Award Giving Ceremony of Green Genius Season 2
The Award Giving Ceremony of Green Genius Season 2 – organized by Green Planet Club of Department of Environmental Science under the School of Environmental Science and Management at Independent University, Bangladesh- was held on 12th March 2019 in IUB Auditorium. Green Genius is an idea generation competition for the betterment of the environment. Over 300 participants from Schools, Colleges and Universities submitted their ideas online (brief project idea) on the first round. Among them, 40 qualifiers from School and College category and 40 participants from University category were selected for the symposium round (2nd round). Participants presented their idea in the symposium by a Poster presentation accompanied by a model/prototype on 10th and 11th March in the IUB Multipurpose Hall. A team of 17 judges from IUB, Creative Conservation Alliance, ULAB Sustainability Center, International Center for Climate Change and Development, World Conservation Society, FAO, and BRAC scrutinized the ideas and selected the winners.
Fairooz Samia from South Breeze School was awarded the Green Genius Season 2 winner (Prize Money of BDT 25000, Crest and Certificate) in the competition. In University category, the winner was Tahsin Rahman from Independent University, Bangladesh. The 1st Runner up for the School & College category who won prize money of Tk. 15000 was Nafisa Maliaut Eshamoni from Brishrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles Public School and College. The 2nd Runner up for the School & College category, with prize money of Tk. 10000 was Tasnim Enam from the Aga Khan School, Dhaka. Due to the overwhelming performance, a Special Mention was awarded to Muhammad Ahnaaf Naaeer from Scholastica. The 1st Runner up for the University category who won prize money of Tk. 15000 was Fahmida Khanam Raha from University of Dhaka. The 2nd Runner up for the university category, with prize money of Tk. 10000 was Kowshik Chakraborty from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University.
Mr. Shykh Seraj, prominent development journalist, Ekushey Padak and Swadhinota Padak Recipient and Founder Director and Head of News of Channel i graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his speech, he stressed on the importance of innovation and how crucial it is for young minds to bring such innovation to ensure sustainable development goals. Professor Dr. Aminul Karim, Dean of School of Business, IUB was also present as Special Guest. Dr. Md. Abdul Khaleque, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management, IUB chaired the programme. Dr. K Ayaz Rabbani, Head, Dept. of Environmental Science, IUB conveyed a vote of thanks to all.
