Owing to the current scenario of country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange-DSE, has become significantly stable. There have been numerous positive changes and initiatives have taken in last five years. Very recently, Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Shanghai Stock Exchange of China became strategic partner of DSE. This move would play the pivotal role in amplifying the capital market of Bangladesh.
Mr. K A M Majedur Rahman, Managing Director, Dhaka Stock Exchange stated the above in a Seminar held at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on March 19, 2019 in Bashundhara, Dhaka. The Seminar titled ‘Capital Market Development in Bangladesh: Current Status & Ways Forward’, was organized by the Finance Department of IUB’s School of Business.
Trustee Mr. Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury, Former Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB; Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB; Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IUB; and Prof. Mohd Aminul Karim, Dean, School of Business were also present on the occasion.
While presenting in the Seminar, Mr. Rahman, discussed various types of investments, dynamics of taking decisions for investments, related risks, and other issues to stock market. He informed the audience that Dhaka Stock Exchange has already prepared necessary rules and regulations for setup a clearing and settlement company. This will provide smooth process of enlisting new companies with DSE by short, mid and long term basis. This will start a new era of capital market investment, Mr. Rahman added.
Trustee Mr. Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury urged upon the new generation to participate actively in creating a developed & effective capital market. Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Prof. Milan Pagon, and Prof. Mohd Aminul Karim also spoke at the Seminar.
Members of the faculty, and administration attended the seminar, which was followed by a stimulating question and answer session.
