20th Convocation of IUB held in befitting manner
Md. Abdul Hamid, President, People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB)’s 20th Convocation 2019. During this auspicious occasion, President and the Chancellor of IUB congratulated the new graduates, and asked the students to give priority to the interests of the country and its people by giving due importance on moral education and help making country’s ongoing development activities sustainable. The President said all this to the graduates of IUB’s 20th Convocation held at the University Campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka on March 28, 2019.
In this Convocation, 1166 students received degrees from six different Schools under 29 programs and disciplines. Out of 1166, 825 were in undergraduate programs while 341 students got degrees in Masters programs. Samara Tawziat Choudhury, the student of Biochemistry of School of Life Sciences became this year’s Valedictorian and Chancellor’s Gold Medalist while 4 students from undergraduate programs received Medals and Crests for making outstanding contributions in extracurricular activities. Four students in graduate programs also received Crests for securing best possible academic excellence.
Highlighting the astounding socio-economic development of the country, President Hamid said, “Due to the charismatic and uncompromising leadership of Bangabandhu, we got independence and subsequently the country is being progressed towards becoming a developed one under the dynamic leadership of his daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
The President, recognized IUB as country’s one of the best private universities. He expressed his deep satisfaction about IUB’s academic curriculum and research strength. President Md. Hamid told, ‘I’m very glad to know that this university is being run with the spirit and ideology of liberation war’.
Prof. Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Founder Chairman, Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, delivered the convocation speech. Prof. Sayeed, with his trademark speciality, urged upon the students to remain as students for a lifetime so everything remains vibrant and easily manageable to them through a continuous learning process. He said, ``Life is very simple and straightforward. Do not make it complicated by chasing the material possessions. Just enjoy it with your passion; do whatever you love to do and serve the humanity. Your journey of life will then become a saga and exemplary to others’’.
Mr. Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, MP, Hon’ble Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education, graced the ceremony as the Special Guest. In his speech, Mr. Chowdhury stated that, “leading private universities like IUB are truly making the difference in producing responsible citizens for the nation’’. He assured of extending all-out support to IUB in its future endeavors.
Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, stated that the UGC is working relentlessly for the improvement the quality of higher education in Bangladesh. He explained the role that the UGC is making in this connection and also assured to provide all essential support from his institution in the days to come ahead.
Mr. A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB expressed his deepest gratitude to the President for presiding the ceremony. He emphasized on building students’ morality. Newly graduates will display strong work ethics, motivation and a resolve to do well both for themselves and for their surroundings, Mr. Matin Chowdhury added.
Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB delivered the welcome speech in the 20th convocation ceremony. He advised students to follow their own passion and take responsibility for the society and also mentioned that, “Education and experience gathered from IUB will help the graduates to conquer the manifold challenges of the real world”.
Honorable Trustees of the University, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, Deans, members of the faculty and administration were present on the occasion. The Convocation was attended by the graduating students, their parents & guardians, dignitaries, media professionals and notable guests.
