EEE department hosts a seminar on Empowering Hi-Tech Economy in Bangladesh: Role of Establishing a Microelectronic VLSI Design Center
The economy of Bangladesh is a rapidly developing market-based economy with primary exports from Argo and Apparel manufacturing sectors. Immediate need for jump start is the need of the hour for the country to embrace the hi-tech VLSI and semiconductor eco system to improve the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) to position Bangladesh at the level of developed nations for the given target date. In this context, developing electronic design industry, services, manufacturing and exports of electronic devices might play an important role for Bangladesh to be at the level of hi-tech world. Keeping these in mind, the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in association with IEEE IUB Student Branch organized a seminar on Empowering Hi-Tech Economy in Bangladesh: Role of Establishing a Microelectronic VLSI Design Center at IUB auditorium on 3rd April, 2019.
Dr. Jahangir Dewan, President and CEO of sBIT Inc., USA and President, American Association of Bangladeshi Engineers and Architects (AABEA), USA was the speaker of the event. The aim of this seminar is to to develop the Microelectronic Enablement Program by establishing microelectronic chip design center at IUB to support the local microelectronics industry. They will also attract FDA (Foreign Direct Investment) and VLSI design MNCs (Multi-National Companies) to open up R&D Centers in Bangladesh. The center will develop well trained VLSI designers under the guidance of Cadence and sBIT. The center will have the ability to design microchips and IPs or component for local and international markets on emerging technologies. Cadence has worked in the past with Brazilian and Hongkong government to establish similar R&D center and made them success stories.
