IEEE IUB Student Branch Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group celebrated International Women in Engineering Day on 27th June, 2019 by hosting a day long national competition ‘INWED_TECHFEST ’19'.
This daylong event comprised of Programming Contest, Idea Innovation, Robo Race, technical seminar series "Women for Life" and a cultural show ended with the prize giving ceremony. 180 participants from 12 different universities from all over Bangladesh took part in the event. Honorable Vice Chancellor (Acting) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), Prof. Milan Pagon officially inaugurated the day-long event in presence of Prof. Mohammed Anwer, Dean of School of Engineering and Computer Science, Dr. Khosru M Salim, Head of EEE department, Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak, the mentor of IEEE IUB Student Branch, Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, IEEE IUB SB Branch Counselor our honorable and respected faculty members and honorable guests. Ms. Navila Rahman Nadi, Advisor of IEEE IUB SB WIE Affinity Group welcomed the Honorable VC, honorable guests and the audience. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak, Prof. Khosru M. Salim, Prof. Mohammed Anwer, gave their invaluable insights on the event. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury.
The inauguration ceremony was followed by technical seminar series, ‘Women For Life', where Prof. Celia Shahnaz, Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section and Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of BUET; Dr. Lafifa Jamal, Professor and Chairperson of Robotics and Mechatronics Department of Dhaka University and President of Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT); Ms. Farzana Mahmood, Advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court and Co-founder and Executive Director of Bangladesh Manobadhikar O Poribesh Andolon Foundation (BAMAPA); Ms. Nobonita Chowdhury, Journalist, TV Anchor and Editor at DBC News-Dhaka Bangla Media and Communication Ltd.; and Ms. Mabia Akhter, a champion Athlete, 1st Gold Medalist for Bangladesh in South Asian game 2016 in Weight Lifting were the speakers. These 5 inspiring women shared their inspiration life story and also gave the audience an insight of how to overcome the struggles and obstacles that women have to face in their everyday life.
The event finally came to an end with the prize giving ceremony followed by a cultural night. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak, the mentor of IEEE IUB Student Branch Branch distributed the prizes among winners of each segment. Ms. Navila Rahman Nadi, Advisor, IEEE IUB SB WIE Affinity Group gave certificates to the volunteers who worked tirelessly and with so much hard work and dedication and made this event successful. The cultural night was full of intriguing and vibrant performances.
