Greta Green Global Day Observed at IUB
The ‘Greta Green Global Day’ was observed on October 24, 2019 at IUB’s own campus in Bashundhara R/A, Dhaka. The daylong event was organized by the Global Studies and Governance (GSG) Program of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) at IUB.
Focusing on environmental and development issues, GSG arranged different activities such as students’ speech contest, roundtable session on Bay of Bengal, and a colorful cultural show. During the speech competition, Charlotta Schlyter, Ambassador of Sweden was present as Special Guest.
Renowned persons participated in the roundtable discussion with the topic, ‘Bay of Bengal’. Sidsel Bleken, Ambassador of Norway; A S A Awal, Former Ambassador & Assistant Chief of Naval Staff; Shahedul Anam, Associate Editor, The Daily Star; S M Salauddin, Executive Chairman, BEPZA; Dr. Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director, CPD; Prof. Rashed Uz Zaman, Chairman, International Relations, Dhaka University; Mr. Tariq Karim, Former Ambassador; Prof. Shahab Enam Khan, International Relations, Jahangirnagar University; Kazi Emdadul Haq, DG, BIMRAD; M Emdadul Haque, Advisor (2030 Water Resources Group); Obaidul Haque, Assistant Professor, IR, Dhaka University; Dr. Mostaq Ahmed, MD, Green Housing and Energy Ltd. were the speakers of the panel. The session was chaired by Dr. A N M Shibly Noman Khan, Head, Department of Human Resources Management, IUB.
Closing ceremony of the day took place in the evening. Peter Fahrenholtz, Ambassador of Germany, was present as Chief Guest and distributed prizes among the winners of Speech Contest. Mr. Abdul Hai Sarker, Chairman, ESTCDT and Mr. Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury, Former Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, honorable Trustees, guests, faculties and IUB officials were also present on the occasion.
Mr. Towhid Samad, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University; Prof. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB and Prof. Imtiaz A Hussain, Dean (Acting), SLASS were present and spoke on the occasion.
The ceremony concluded with a flamboyant cultural show performed by IUB students.
