EEE Students visit Orion Power Plant at Narayanganj
A group of 48 students and 2 faculty members from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) visited 102 MW HFO-based Power Plant (Digital Power & Associates Ltd.) of Orion group at Kashipur, Narayanganj on November 9, 2019 as a part of their field experience programme for their three theory courses: Energy Conversion-I, Power System-I & Power System-II. The day-long industrial tour was jointly organized by the IEEE IUB Student Branch and IEEE Industry Application Society IUB Student Branch Chapter in cooperation with the EEE department. The visitors were welcomed by the Plant Manager. In this industrial tour to one of the largest power plants of Orion Group, students were accompanied by Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak, Assoc. Professor of EEE department and the Mentor of IEEE IUB Student Branch, and Mr. Ramendra Narayan Saha Shukhon, Lab Technician of EEE department. During the visit, students were briefed of the various sections of the power plant by the power station engineers, which include the generators room, boiler section, cooling section, transmission control room, load management and monitoring room, generating substations and distribution switch terminals. Apart from the demonstration, a safety instruction session followed by a technical lecture session was also organized for the students on the overall working procedure of this important power plant. Finally, a question and answer session provided good insight into the operations, protocols and machines of this important key point installation of the country. It was a significant opportunity for the students of EEE major to gain practical experience of visiting the large power plants in Bangladesh and acquire knowledge about the practical applications of their classroom-based study.
