Field visit of IUB Green Planet Club
The Green Planet Club of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) with the support and guidance of Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Khaleque, SESM at IUB arranged a field visit on February 15, 2020 to Turtle Conservation Center at Bhawal National Park, Gazipur. This Center, however, is jointly managed by the Forest Department of the Government of Bangladesh, Future for Nature, Creative Conservation Alliance, Turtle Survival Alliance, The Species Survival Commission of IUCN, and Prokriti O Jibon Foundation.
A group of 32 club members participated in this daylong interactive knowledge acquiring visit. The primary purpose of this visit was to give participants a firsthand learning experience to practical methods of conservation of critically endangered species. In this center, participants took a close look into the conservation process of four turtle species which include Giant Tortoise, Elongated Tortoise, Box Turtle and Arakan Tortoise.
Students were divided into two different groups and taken two separate sessions conducted by Nathan Haislip, Facilities Manager and Lead Keeper, Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA), Shahriar Caesar Rahman, Chief Executive Officer and Fahim Zaman from CCA, Creative Conservation Alliance respectively.
