IUB meets BIMRAD for essential collaboration
On 18 February 2020, a delegation from the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), led by Prof. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting) visited Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) at the Naval Headquarters Complex, Banani, Dhaka to discuss issues of mutual interest.
Ambassador (Retd.) Tariq A Karim, Senior Fellow, Bay of Bengal Institute Project at IUB, Dr. Saleemul Huq, Director, ICCCAD, IUB were there in the team with the Vice Chancellor (Acting).
At the outset, Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, NBP, OSP, BCGM, ndc, psc (retd), Chairman, BIMRAD started the meeting with brief opening note and introduced all members. Afterwards, Commodore Kazi Emdadul Haq, BSP, ndu, psc, BN (Retd.), DG, BIMRAD and Prof. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (Acting), IUB presented brief scenario about their organizational structures, history, publications, research and other relevant activities. Subsequently the Chairman, Advisor & DG, BIMRAD, Ambassador (Retd.) Tariq Karim and Dr. Saleemul Huq discussed on contemporary and very pertaining issues surrounding the Bay of Bengal like geopolitical dilemma, regional integration, deep sea fishing, exploration of marine resources, prospects of wind energy, marine plastic pollution, sea level rise, and impact of climate change upon coastal livelihood.
Both parties agreed to follow-up on the issues that have been identified for further cooperation. In this regard, at the kickoff stage, BIMRAD would endeavor its best to take the initiative to sign MoU with IUB by sending an initial draft on it. However, BIMRAD also requested IUB delegation to explore different approaches and opportunity to conduct research in the maritime arena focusing the Bay of Bengal in cooperation with BIMRAD.
