To mark the International Women’s Day, the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) at IUB and Pathao jointly organized very colorful events and awarded successful women who took the lead and played roles in making the difference. The event took place at IUB Auditorium on March 8, 2020. On the occasion, two Seminars emphasizing women's rights issues and women's contributions to the society's different sectors were held. Dr. Shamim Matin Chowdhury, Founder Chairperson, Beautiful Mind and Prof. Niaz Zaman, Advisor, Department of English and Modern Languages were the moderators of these sessions.
Mr. A Matin Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB; Prof. Milan Pagon, Vice-Chancellor (Acting), IUB; Prof. Imtiaz A Hussain, Dean (Acting), SLASS and; Mr. Hussain M Elius, CEO, Pathao also spoke during the inaugural session.
Mr. Chowdhury stated that Bangladesh is still far behind of women leadership. He urged upon all women to help themselves to get rid of the situation.
Prof. Pagon emphasized on skill development which is utterly crucial for women in the context of forth industrial revolution. He recommended to help preparing the future generation to make them capable in facing new challenges.
During the sessions, all awardees discussed their experiences and shared the challenges that they had to face to come to this stage. All these successful women categorically admitted that this has not been possible to achieve if men were not there just besides them.
Marking the day, the organizers awarded 26 women for their outstanding contributions to different sectors including business, academia, healthcare, law enforcement, arts and media, sports and journalism.
Honorable Trustees and their spouses, Deans, senior members of the faculty and administration and large number of students attended this significant event.
