IEEE WIE IUB Student Branch Affinity Group Organizes First Webinar of its Webinar Series On "WOMEN IN STEM: JOURNEY AS RESEARCHER AND IMPACT OF COVID19"


Women have made significant contributions to the world of STEM for decades. But their invaluable achievements are ignored or overlooked in several instances. Despite the setbacks, creative and tenacious women are pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge and seeing solutions to complex global challenges every day. Their work has changed the way we see our world, and their stories deserve to be told and retold.
On September 12th 2020, IEEE WIE IUB Student Branch Affinity Group organized the first webinar of the webinar series on "WOMEN IN STEM: Journey as Researcher and Impact of covid19", to listen to the stories of women in STEM. This event was supported by IEEE IUB Student Branch and was hosted by Anisha Mahinoor Ferdous, Chair, IEEE IUB Student Branch. Around 40 participants were present including faculty members from different universities of Bangladesh and abroad.
The speaker of the event was Ms. Kazi Naziba Tahsin, PhD student, Biomedical Engineering, University of Western Ontario and Graduate Research Assistant, Schulich of medicine and dentistry (UWO). In this webinar, the speaker shared her earlier career paths, how she achieved success in her both personal and professional life. She also shared her journey as a researcher and presented one of her significant & recent publications during the covid19 entitled "The Rapid Detection of Corona Virus using Nanotechnology". The speaker also added how amazing it is to observe that more and more confident younger women are entering into science and demanding the recognition they deserve. As a result of this, the momentum for change is unstoppable. She also gave suggestions to young girls' in STEM fields on how to overcome their difficulties.
Lastly, a certificate was presented by the branch counselor of IEEE IUB Student Branch, Dr. Md. Kafiul Islam to the speaker as a token of appreciation. The event concluded with a thank you note by Ms. Tahsin Ferdous Ara Nayna, the faculty advisor of IEEE WIE IUB SB AG.
