IEEE IUB SB and its Counselor both Win Outstanding Student Branch and Branch Counselor Award at IEEE BDS Awards Night

IEEE IUB Student Branch is proud to achieve two of the prestigious awards from IEEE Bangladesh Section for its valued contribution in 2020. In an Award Night of IEEE Bangladesh Section held on 31st December, 2020 on a virtual platform Zoom, IEEE IUB Student Branch was awarded with the "Outstanding Student Branch Award" and Dr. Md. Kafiul Islam, Assoc. Prof. of EEE dept. and Counselor of IEEE IUB Student Branch 2020 was awarded with the "Outstanding Branch Counselor".
The annual award ceremony was organized by IEEE Bangladesh Section with around 100 delegates from different universities. The ceremony was adorned with the presence of IEEE Fellow Prof. Saifur Rahman, the past Chair of IEEE PES and the 2022 IEEE President-Elect Candidate, who was the chief guest of the event. The awards were selected among the 3000+ members of 50+ student branches from IEEE Bangladesh Section.
It was indeed a proud moment for the members of the IEEE IUB Student Branch who along with its other student branch society chapters (i.e. IEEE IAS IUB SBC, IEEE RAS IUB SBC, and IEEE CS IUB SBC) and affinity group (IEEE WIE IUB SB AG) had successfully organized more than 36 events/activities throughout the year 2020 despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The events organized by the Student Branch include: 26 Technical events, (Webinars, Workshops, Tech-Talk, Career talks, Professional and Soft Skills, etc.), 5 Nontechnical (Social, Freshers’ Day, EEE Day, Success Stories, Launching of YouTube channel, Story writing contest, Hult Prize at IUB collaboration, etc.), 3 Administrative (Ex-Com Meeting, Ex-Com Alumni Meeting), and 2 Humanitarian (Freecycle@IUB) activities.
Heartfelt thanks to IEEE Bangladesh Section for the tremendous support to IUB and to the Head of Dept. of EEE, Prof. Khsoru M. Salim for supporting the activities of this SB. Special thanks is due to Prof. Abdur Razzak, Branch Mentor of IEEE IUB SB & Advisor of IEEE IAS IUB SB Chapter who is the also the founding Counselor of this student branch, for his continuous guidance and motivation. Previous Branch Counselor Dr. Mustafa Chowdhury also deserved appreciation for his role in leading the branch for consecutive 4 years. Thanks are also due to the current Advisor of IEEE IUB SB WIE AG, Ms. Tahsin Ferdous Ara Nayna, Advisor of IEEE RAS IUB SBC, Mr. Nasfikur Rahman Khan, Advisor of IEEE CS IUB SBC, Dr. Mahady Hasan and Mentors of IEEE CS IUB SBC, Ms. Ajmiri Sabrina Khan and Mr. Md. Asif Bin Khaled, for their continuous support and inspiration towards the students throughout the year.
Lastly, special thanks are due to the Executive Committee and the volunteers of IEEE IUB SB 2020. Without their efforts these achievements would not have been possible. A big shout-out to them and their immense dedication. IEEE IUB Student Branch hopes to prosper in the future work with the motive of IEEE’s tagline “Advancing Technology for the Benefit of Humanity”.
