The Department of Law at IUB, in collaboration with Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI), Sweden, organized a Workshop on February 25, 2021 at the university campus entitled, ‘Developing Modules for a Blended Learning Course on Displacement and Human Rights in the Context of Disaster and Climate Change’.
Prof. Milan Pagon, Pro-Vice Chancellor, IUB inaugurated the Workshop and delivered his opening remarks. Prof. Dr. Taiabur Rahman, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) also delivered the welcome speech while Prof. Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan, Head and Advisor, Department of Law at IUB chaired the session and conveyed his remarks.
IUB Law Department has been collaborating with RWI since 2018. In 2020 IUB and RWI signed a further collaboration agreement to develop a Blended Learning Course (BLC) module. This BLC will apply human rights and gender-based approaches to displacement in the context of disaster and climate change. Dr. Md Abdul Awal Khan, Associate Professor of Law coordinated the Workshop as a team leader of the Project. Dr. Md. Hafizur Rahman, Associate Professor of Environmental Science and Management and Dr. Assaduzzaman, Associate Professor of Law also participated in the Workshop as team members of the Project. The session was conducted by Nabila Tahsin Farah, Lecturer of the Law Dept.
The Workshop was graced by the distinguished discussants from the Bangladesh Planning Commission, Bangladesh Water Development Board, public and private universities, research institutes and NGOs. Expert discussants actively contributed to the workshop and provided their valuable suggestions to improve the quality of the BLC. Dr. Matthew Scott, Head of People on the Move Thematic Area, RWI also sent his welcome message to IUB and Workshop discussants. Sri Aryani, RWI Programme Officer, Regional Asia Pacific Office, joined the Workshop online from Jakarta and delivered her speech.
