BLI organizes cultural event
The Bangla Language Institute (BLI) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a cultural event on March 11, 2021 at the University’s own campus in Bashundhara to celebrate the International Mother Language Day and 50 years of Independence. BLI organized the event in collaboration with the American Center of the US Embassy, Dhaka. Students of BLI, IUB and some US State Department Scholarship Alumni participated and performed at the event.
H.E Mr. Espen Rikter-Svendsen, honorable Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and in a short speech elaborated on the importance of learning a variety of languages and cultures.
Professor Tanweer Hasan, Vice Chancellor remained present in the program along with the Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Milan Pagon and put special remarks on the importance of learning Bangla properly and encouraged the students to get themselves engaged with research oriented works to explore new horizons.
Ms. Khadija Mohamud, Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer, The American Center, US Embassy, Dhaka, joined the program remotely and expressed her admiration for Bangla language and culture and praised BLI for doing a great job in promoting and spreading Bangla. A sizable group of BLI students from the US and Canada attended and performed Online. Mr. Sohan Salek, Alumni Outreach Coordinator, the American Center, US Embassy, Dhaka, and few other guests from locally and abroad also joined online. Ms. Reefat Munmun, Head, BLI moderated the event and also delivered the opening remarks.
The Institute teaches Bangla as a foreign language in an immersion environment to the international students, researchers, expatriates, diplomats, heritage learners and anyone else seeking to learn Bangla.
