Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) celebrated 101st birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day on March 17, 2021. The program commenced with the Vice Chancellor Professor Tanweer Hasan, Treasurer, Registrar & Deans of different Schools jointly hoisted the national flag as well as the flag of IUB. They also released white pigeons as the symbol of peace. The event took place at IUB’s own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
After the national anthem, Vice Chancellor Prof. Tanweer Hasan delivered the welcome address at the outset. He requested everyone, particularly the students to read more on Bangabandhu and learn his philosophies towards crafting a prosperous Bangladesh. Treasurer, Registrar, Deans of different schools, members of faculty & admin, students were present in the ceremony.
Later, IUB students performed patriotic songs in the ceremony while H. M. Omit Hasan Anik, President of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at IUB (DEA_IUB) delivered speech on behalf of the students.
Subsequently the IUB team visited Bangabandhu and Liberation War Corner at the University Library. In a discussion session, Professor Zakir Hossain Raju, Head, Department of Media and Communication, IUB spoke on Bangabadhu’s versatile life. He highlighted Bangabandhu’s dreams that have now become the driving force and effectively playing the roles of creating ‘developing Bangladesh’.
A friendly football tournament amongst faculty and students and tree plantation program were also held in the campus on that day. To conclude the day’s activities, IUB placed floral wreath on Bangabandhu’s portrait at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi-32 to demonstrate respect and tributes to the Father of the Nation. Division of Student Affairs (DoSA) organized the entire event.
