The Admission Office of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a Webinar on April 29, 2021 for university-bound students to facilitate their quality higher education. This Webinar was aimed to create an opportunity for all potential students to assess everything before they get admitted towards ensuring their most desired future. Dr. Samiul Parvez Ahmed, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Finance, School of Business Entrepreneurship, IUB; Dr. Mahady Hasan, Associate Professor & Head of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Technology & Science, IUB; Lima Choudhury, Deputy Director & Head of Admissions & Financial Aid Office; Shahnoor Hasan, IUB alumna and; Ricardo Samuel, a BBA student of IUB were the Speakers of the Webinar.
At the outset, Dr. Parvez highlighted IUB’s achievements, specially SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2021 and IUB’s Professor and Director of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) Dr. Saleemul Huq, who has been ranked 208th in Reuters Hot List that identified and ranked the world’s 1000 most influential climate scientists. He noted that the IUB has increasingly emphasized the role of research and knowledge creation as a prerequisite to high-quality education.
Dr. Mahady started with IUB’s history and he moved on mentioning details about the cutting-edge resources and technology of IUB, state of the art faculty qualifications, refulgent alumni, accredited programs, and also focused on unique live-in-field education method, highly equipped online class facilities, and special career guidance support.
Lima Choudhury delivered all kinds of admission and financial aid-related information. She stated that IUB offers a 50% waiver on admission fees for the COVID-19 pandemic, she also mentioned that IUB management is taking into consideration the financial struggles that many parents are currently facing. IUB also announced the establishment of a student assistance fund to support its students who are experiencing difficulties.
Shahnoor Hasan, the alumna of IUB who is pursuing a doctoral degree in the Netherlands on water governance at IHE Delft – the world’s largest postgraduate water institute and Ricardo Samuel, a current student in final year from International Business also shared their knowledge regarding IUB Campus life and student facilities. Shahnoor mentioned her journey at IUB and how IUB’s student life activities helped her to pursue higher studies in a global arena. Ricardo briefed during this pandemic how IUB organize its club activities and mentioned the initiatives taken by IUB to manage student’s physical and psychological health. He mentioned that this learning period in IUB not only helping him to fight for future challenges but also helping him to play a leadership role in his future career.
The program was conducted by Priyanka Dey, Assistant Director, Admission & Financial Aid. Two videos were displayed during the Webinar on the numerous facilities and student activities of IUB. This Webinar was telecasted LIVE on IUB’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Interested students were very interactive by asking their queries through Facebook comments. At the end of the session, the Speakers replied with answers to those queries. This Webinar is expected to help the potential students to comprehend IUB’s quality higher education endeavors that can prepare them to face the challenges of fourth industrial revolution. This is their pathway to become the global professionals through comprehensive liberal arts approaches.
