The Department of Social Sciences and Humanities (DSSH) at the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) hosted a webinar to mark World Refugee Day 2021. The department in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and partnership with Sociology Club, Dance Club and Anthropology Club arranged the event on Thursday, July 1, 2021, virtually on the Zoom platform. Md Shahidul Haque, former Foreign Secretary and Professorial Fellow at the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance in North South University attended the event as the chief guest while Johannes Van Der Klaauw, Representative of UNHCR in Bangladesh participated in the function as the special guest. Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of IUB also attended the webinar. Professor Taiabur Rahman, Dean, SLASS put forth his remarks as the Chair of the event and Professor Imtiaz A. Hussain, Head, Global Studies and Governance (GSG), IUB discussed the keynote paper presented by Obydullah Al Marjuk, Senior Lecturer at the Department. The discussion began with a welcoming address by the Acting Head of the Department Sharmeen Ahmed, and Associate Professor Dr. Kazi Mahmudur Rahman. The event was followed by creative performances by the members of the Sociology Club, Dance Club and Anthropology Club.
