"Lawyers are social engineers to bring about positive changes in the world. To make a difference in the lives of the people and to serve humanity, lawyers must prepare themselves with adequate knowledge and understanding of international law" said, Speaker of the Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, M.P. She made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural program of the 6th Bangladesh Qualifying Round of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition hosted by Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on Thursday, February 17, 2022 in an online platform. The program was chaired by IUB Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD. He said, in the wake of the 4th Industrial Revolution, we need global citizens who would be sensitive to the rights of others and who would strive to resolve any dispute or difference through resolution mechanisms. Ms. Helen LaFave, Chargé d’ Affaires, U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh; Professor Borhan Uddin Khan, Advisor & Head of Law, IUB; Mr. Washik Muhammad Istiaq Ezaz, National Administrator, Bangladesh Qualifying Round, Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2022; Mr. Nuran Choudhury, Founding National Administrator of the competition and Coordinator, ILSA Chapters in Bangladesh, Mr. A B M Hamidul Mishbah Barrister & Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Professor Taiabur Rahman, PhD Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, IUB; and The Last Executive Director of International Law Students Association Ms. Lesley Benn also spoke at the event.
