IUB celebrates the role of female support staff on International Women’s Day

Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) celebrated the contribution o it’s female support staff to observe the International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. This year the global theme for the day was “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. The event was organized by the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) of IUB at the university auditorium.
Highlighting the role of women in Bangladesh’s ready made garments sector, IUB Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, said: “Women are the backbone of the country’s economy. So, we must recognize their contribution.”
Mr. Abdul Hai Sarker, Chairman of IUB Board of Trustees; Mrs. Nilufer Zafarullah, Chair of the Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust (ESTCDT); Prof. Taiabur Rahman, Dean of SLASS, also spoke at the event among others.
The event also included a special question-answer session between the audience and Prof. Meheru Ahmed, Dean of IUB’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
This year, IUB acknowledged the hard work of its 66 female support staff that consists of cleaners, security guards and housekeepers with presents.
In the last segment of the event, students from the IUB Theatre Club, Dance Club and Music Club performed in a cultural program.
