Students from the first batch of ARROWS met the faculty and senior management at the IUB Multi-purpose Hall on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. This is the first time that all the 50 students recruited under the ARROWS program met with the faculty and senior management since the campus reopened earlier this month after the Covid shutdowns.
Renowned writer and journalist Mr. Anisul Hoque, who attended the event as the chief guest, delivered an uplifting speech to the ARROWS. He said: “Young minds are like candles. They have the wax, they have the wick. All we need to do is give them the fire. If we can light just one candle, many more candles will be lit up from it. I have a very strong feeling that through this ARROWS program, IUB will be able to do just that.”
IUB Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, also spoke on inclusive development and how the IUB ARROWS program came into being. He said that excelling in academic results was not going to be enough for the future. Students would have to acquire additional skills such as computer coding, learn multiple languages, and participate in sports and cultural activities to become truly ready for a successful future. And IUB has made all necessary arrangements for them to cater to their all these needs.
IUB Registrar Brig Gen (Retd) Md. Anwarul Islam also spoke at the event. The deans of the five schools of IUB and other senior management team members were present at the program. Following the speeches, senior students welcomed the freshers to the campus through ice-breaking activities and performances such as dance, music and mime show.
