EEE Students Visit Summit Purbachal Power Plant
A group of 38 senior students from Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) department of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) visited Summit Purbachal Power Plant (SPPP) at Rupganj, Narayanganj on 22 February, 2014 as part of their academic programme. IEEE IUB Student Branch arranged this industrial tour for the students of the 4th level courses EEE403 (Power Plant Engineering) and EEE402 (Power Transmission and Distribution). In this trip to the 3rd largest power plant of Summit Power Ltd., the students were accompanied by their course instructors Dr. Abdur Razzak, Associate Professor of EEE department and Mr. Shoaib Shahriar, Lecturer of the same department. During the tour, students were divided into five subgroups and were briefed on the step-by-step power generation processes of the spark-ignited gas-engine-based 33MW power plant by the plant engineers. The trip also continued to the different sections of the plant such as grid substation, regulatory & metering station, radiator & cooling site, main engine room and control room. The question and answer session provided good insight into the operations of this important power plant. On the whole, the trip was an excellent opportunity for the students of EEE major to find practical applications of their classroom-based knowledge.
