English Department Students go to a Theatre Performance
The students of ENG 412 (English Drama from Congreve to Churchill) of the Department of English and Modern Language enjoyed Antare Bahire Chitrangada, a performance based on Rabindranath Tagore’s classic play by Nagorik Natya Sampraday, one of the renowned theatre groups of Bangladesh, on Friday, 18 August 2023. Led by the course instructor Professor Ahmed Ahsanuzzaman, the students who attended the performance at the Neelima Ibrahim Auditorium on Natak Sarani in Bailey Road included Rabiah, Samara, Snigdha, Tushin and Samia. The students were mesmerized by the performance, which depicted the journey of the protagonist, Chitrangada, who wants to be recognized and accepted by Arjuna “as she is” and not as a goddess or a woman. Encouraging students to engage and understand the theatre production process, the visit facilitated students’ understanding of and exposure to theatre and performance.
