Workshop on Effects of EMF Radiation on Human Kind
A day-long workshop on EMF Measurement and Effects of EMF Radiation on Human Kind was held at the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on 21st January, 2016. The workshop was jointly organized by IEEE IUB Student Branch, Fastech Telecommunications Ltd, Urbantech Ltd and Narda Safety Test Solutions, India. The workshop was conducted by Deepak Kumbhar, Assistant Manager- Technical Sales of Fastech Telecommunications Ltd, Mumbai, India.
Mr. Kumbhar is experienced in Telecom networks spanning GSM, CDMA, UMTS and LTE systems across multiple operators in India and Bangladesh. The agenda of the workshop was to discuss Biological Effects of EMF radiation, Exposure Limits and Measurement Standards, estimation of exposure from base station, measuring instruments for broadband and frequency selective measurement. The workshop was started with a brief introduction of Fastech Telecommunications Ltd. Mr. Kumbhar then discussed EMF radiation, how they are being produced in the telecom field in particular, why they are being produced, how we are getting effected biologically by EMF radiation both in by short term and long term exposure. Next, Mr. Kumbhar introduced the students to some measuring instruments for broadband and frequency selective measurements. The SRM-3006 (Selective Radiation Measurement), NBM-550 / 520 (Broadband EMF Meters) and the Radman XT (Personal Monitors) were the tools that were shown live during the seminar. Mr. Kumbhar explained and demonstrated how the instruments are used in telecom field to measure EMF for different purposes. The end of the workshop was followed with a responsive question answer session about the workshop.
Dr. Feroz Ahmed, Associate Professor, EEE Dept., invited Fastech Telecommunications Ltd. and Urbantech Ltd. to take the workshop. Dr. M. Abdur Razzak, Head of EEE Department and Branch Mentor of IEEE IUB Student Branch addressed the instructors for the session. Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Branch Counselor of IEEE IUB Student Branch then ended the session by giving a vote of thanks and taking a group photo of the workshop attendees and the instructors.
