IUB Projects Dominate “Electricity Week”
As a part of motivation program on energy saving, Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources in collaboration with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), arranged a week long awareness program termed the “Electricity Week ‘14” (Bidyut Shaptaha ‘14) during the period of the 6th - 13th December in Dhaka. This year, as part of the celebration, an inter-university competition termed “Inter University Innovation Competition” was arranged to promote innovative research in energy sector. A total of 97 projects were submitted from all over the country including BUET, DU, SUST, KUET, AUST, NSU, IUB and such. Among those, power division selected 15 projects to showcase in the fair. 5 out of these 15 projects selected, were submitted by the students of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Independent University Bangladesh.
On the basis of novelty of ideas and their potential impact in mitigating energy related crises, the judges finally selected 9 projects for the final stage, all 5 projects submitted by the IUB students got inducted into the final round. The projects selected from IUB were:
1. Development of a Three Phase induction Motor Controller for Solar Powered Water Pump.
2. Design and implementation of One Kilowatt Capacity Single Phase Grid Tie Photovoltaic inverter.
3. Design and implementation of a Cost-Effective Three Phase Variable Frequency Drive.
4. Design and implementation of a Wind Power Cultivation System in The Coastal Area of Bangladesh.
5. Design and implementation of a Wave Power Cultivation System in a Fishing Boat.
Among these “Development of Three Phase induction Motor Controller for Solar Powered Water Pump” by Mr. Md. Jasim Uddin (Department of EEE, IUB) and his team under the supervision of Dr. Khosru M. Salim, head, dept. of EEE, secured the third position.
The honorable President of Bangladesh, Mr.Abdul Hamid was present at the opening ceremony held at BICC. The honorable State Minister Mr. Nasrul Hamid, MP and Secretary of power division Mr. Monowar Islam handed over the prize. Chairman of Power Distribution Board (BPDB), Chairman of Dhaka Power Distribution Co. Ltd. (DPDC) and Chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission showed keen interest and in IUB projects and also showed interest in jointly collaborate on future development of the projects.
