EEE Faculty Wins the Best Presentation Award in ICSET held in Vietnam
Dr. Mustafa H. Chowdhury, Assistant Professor of the EEE Department was awarded the Best Presentation Award for the paper titled “Use of plasmonic metal nanoparticles to increase the light absorption efficiency of thin-film solar cells”. presented at the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technologies (ICSET 2016) held in Hanoi, Vietnam from November 14-16, 2016. The paper was co-authored with Saniat Ahmed Choudhury, a Master’s student in the EEE Department. ICSET 2016 started on November 14th with an opening ceremony and keynote speech by Prof. Konstantin Turitsyn of MIT on the “Next Generation Mathematical Tools for Smart and Resilient Grids”, and a Plenary Talk by Prof. Hsiao-Dong Chiang of Cornell University on “A Smart Transmission System and Its Application”. This was followed by parallel breakout technical sessions on “Intelligent Energy, Power Transmission Distribution”, “Demand Response”, “Power Electronics and Energy Conversion”, “Renewable Power System Analysis and Operation”, “Electric Machines”, and “Wind Energy Systems”. Nov. 15th started with a Semi-Plenary Talk by Prof. P.R. Kumar of Texas A&M University on “Towards a Systems Theory for the Integration of Renewables”, and another Semi-Plenary Talk by Dr. LongyaXu of Ohio State University on “Dynamics and Advanced Control of DFIG Wind Turbines under Low-Voltage-Ride-Through (LVRT) Conditions”. This was followed by parallel breakout technical sessions on “Wind Energy Systems”, “Smart Grid”, “Energy Storage Systems”, “Power Management for Built Environment”, “Power Electronics and Energy Conversion”, “Photovoltaics and Solar Thermal”. Dr. Chowdhury presented their paper in the “Photovoltaics and Solar Thermal” technical session. This was followed by Banquet Dinner and Award Ceremony. Nov. 16th included a short technical tour to GELEX, Hanoi.
