| The International Center for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a seminar on Green Banking at the permanent campus of IUB at Bashundhara, Dhaka, on 21st July, 2012. The Governor of the Bangladesh Bank Dr. Atiur Rahman was present at the seminar as Chief Guest and keynote speaker. The Governor spoke on the concept of Green Banking and Green Economy and depicted a clear picture of the process the Central Bank of Bangladesh is following to promote Green Banking in Bangladesh. “The Central Bank of Bangladesh is probably the only Central Bank in this world which has done so much for the environment in the form of promoting Green Banking”, he claimed. He informed the audience that the Central Banks from other least developed countries are showing interests to know the process Bangladesh Bank took in this regard. He praised those commercial banks which responded positively to the call of the Central Bank by investing in the field of Green Banking. After the talk, the Governor encountered a few related questions from the audience. Mr. Towhid Samad, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, Prof. M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB, Dr. Saleemul Huq, Director, ICCCAD spoke, among others, on the occasion. |
