American students at IUB to learn Bangla

The students of Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) 2012 at the Bangla Summer Institute (BSI), performed at a Talent Show on 30 July at Atrium Restaurant, Baridhara, Dhaka. The Talent Show was hosted by Bangla Language Institute of Independent University, Bangladesh. The honorable Vice Chancellor of IUB, Professor M. Omar Rahman was present as the chief guest. For the eighth consecutive year, the Bangla Language Institute of the University is hosting a group of American students to learn Bangla language.

The program started with a welcome speech and overview of the summer program by the Site Director of BSI 2012 Ms Razima Selim Chowdhury. Ms Shaheen Khan, the Cultural Specialist at The American Center Dhaka; Professor Haroun Er Rashid, Dean, School of Environment Science and Management; and Professor Nazrul Islam, Dean of School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences also spoke on the occasion. Bennett Comerford and Tamanna Disha represented the BSI students and language partners respectively. They shared their experiences and thanked the program staff for their continuous cooperation and support.

 The chief guest in his speech applauded the program saying that it is a unique program doing an exemplary job for everyone teaching foreign languages in the country. This first part of the program ended with Iftar followed by a cultural performance by the students and a dinner. The officials of IUB, CLS alumni, language partners and other program partners were present on the occasion.
