Prof. Haroun Er Rashid
|  | Haroun Er Rashid is Professor of Geography and Chair of the School of Environmental Science and Management in Independent University, Bangladesh in Dhaka. He obtained an MA in Geography from Cambridge University and an MA in Economics from Center for Development Economics, Williams College, USA. On his return in 1959 he joined Dhaka University, but stayed only few months. He then joined the Civil Service of Pakistan, and later the Civil Service of Bangladesh. He worked many years on lien in the World Bank and FAO. He has written extensively on the state of the environment in | | Bangladesh, particularly on water resources. He was co-director, Environment Study, Flood Action Plan and Chairman of Panel of Experts for the National Water Management Plan. He set up IUCN office in Bangladesh and also the South Asia Regional Environmental Association. He has been for many years an executive of the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Society. He is also a member of the Board of Arannayk Foundation for Tropical Forest Conservation. He is author of many reports and articles, and five books; which are: “A Systematic List of the Birds of East Pakistan” (1965),” Systematic Regional Geography of East Pakistan(1967)” “The Geography of Bangladesh” ([1977-] 1991), Conflicts of Culture: Lessons from Bosnia. (1998) and Economic Geography of Bangladesh, ([1981] 2005).
