Deputy Librarian (Systems)

Responsibilities: The Deputy Librarian (Systems) will be responsible for -- planning, implementing, and managing information technologies that facilitate library services to faculty, students, and staff; managing integrated library software and websites; initiating to resolve day-today library hardware and software issues through appropriate channels; organizing electronic resources for better use; integrating library’s works with the information technology; researching on current professional practices and trends; keeping vendor options and ideas that are developed by various groups, other academic libraries, and a broad range of web developers who might inform the way we provide access to our materials; working in some evening and weekend hours; and assisting overall for running the library smoothly.

Qualification and Experience: Must have Master’s degree in Library Science/ Library and Information Science/ Information Science and Library Management/ Information Studies. Master in Computer Science/Application will be considered as an additional qualification. Minimum ten years of experiences in library field of which four years at the level of assistant librarian in a reputed university.

Skills : Knowledge of existing and emerging library metadata standards such as MARC21, AACR2, DC, CCF, SPINES, RDA, BIBFRAME, linked data, etc.; Expertise on using tools such as MarcEdit, OCLC Connexion, and OpenRefine to perform original and complex copy cataloging; Working knowledge of the database technologies such as Koha, DSapce, MySQL, and Microsoft Access to store, manipulate, and query structured data; Proficiency in coding HTML, CSS, PHP, Java, JQuery, Perl; Knowledge of Linux commands and editing; Experience in managing, implementing and integrating with discovery layers such as Summon, Vufind, etc.; Expertise in referencing software, especially in EndNote; knowledge of local, national and regional policy framework in relevant areas.
